Macerated Oil
This recipe is a general technique, to be used with any DRIED material like petals, and leaves. The reason we used dried, is because we are trying to avoid mold. Any time we introduce moisture to a preparation, we run the risk of shortening it's lifespan. This method is used for material that is generally more delicate in nature like petals or leaves, not big tough roots or stems.
Simply pack a glass jar of appropriate size with the dried material you wish to use, for example Calendula petals. Cover with your selected extraction oil. (When I am making Calendula oil, I tend to use a light Extra virgin olive oil or sunflower oil, as these are nice on the skin, and economical.
Seal (I usually use a piece of wax paper and a screw on mason lid). Set aside in a cool dark place, (not the fridge). Shake daily for at least 2 weeks. Strain. You can repeat with fresh dried herb if you want a stronger smell, but I usually just leave it for 3 weeks, and am happy with the results. Store in a cool dark place.
